Sd.Kfz. 221 - Polish campaign

The light armoured car Sd.Kfz.221 was developed in 1934  and was based on the Horch 801 standard heavy four-wheeled passenger car chassis with an armoured body with well sloped armour and small open top machine gun turret. The Sd.Kfz.221 was armed initially with the 7.92mm MG13 and later the 7.92mm MG34 machine gun. The vehicle saw its first actions during the Invasion of Poland - the first "BLITZKRIEG" campaign.

One of my favorites vehicles was now launched by BRONCO. Maybe a expensive kit - but its funny to build and you can make a real eyecatcher easy from the box.

The quality is in general very well, at some minor parts we find a little bit flash. Assembling is really not a hard work -the instructions shows clearly every step. Here some pics of the assembled kit:

As you can see the only replaced parts are the MG-34 wich comes from AFV-Club and ABER. The extinguisher is from Tamiya, the remain parts are completly OOTB.

In a first step of painting the whole kit was sprayed with thin layers of Tamiya XF-1 flat black with some drops of clear cote. This gives the model a first impression of deepth and at the same time its the primer. The first real layer of camo was a mixture of  german grey XF-63 and field blue XF-50. Some highlight shades were reached by adding light blue XF-23.

The next pic shows the finished camo - the brown color is a mixture of NATO -Brown XF-68 and flat earth XF-52. The decals are from the box. I think they are a little bit too thick.

From the next steps - washings, filters, chipping and dusting by pigments I didn´t pictures - sorry. But here you can see the final result of an typical german vehicle from the early stages of BLITZKRIEG.

Ok, thats it for the moment. I will make a small base with a couple of figures to reach a touch of "life".
